Dr. Kovács Gábor PhD

Dr. Kovács Gábor PhD was born in 1966. He pursued his musical studies at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music i Budapest where he graduated in 1990 as choral conductor and teacher of music. Then he studied early dance in London with Madeleine Inglehearn and obtained the Diploma of Licenciate at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 1992. He defended his PhD dissertation in musicology at the Queen’s University in Belfast in 1996.

From 1998 he is a teacher of choral conducting at the Szeged University Teacher’s Training College. Founder and artistic leader of the early music ensemble "Al Fresco" and the international competition awarded chamber choir "... canticum novum". The CD-s of the choir were published in 2006 and 2008. He performed and ran masterclasses in Austria, Romania (Transylvania), Finland, France, Israel, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Serbia-Montenegro, Slovenien and Slovakia. He is a regular teacher of masterclasses home and abroad. In 1997 and 1999 two books of him were published on early dance, which. are concerned as the first comparative literature of the subject in Hungarian language. The results of his research in the field of early music and dance are demonstrated in lectures of conferences and articles in the periodicals of European Association of Dance Historians.
